The 2nd Africa International Biomedical and Biotechnology Conference
(AIBBC 2015)
The 2nd Africa International Biotechnology and Biomedical Conference (AIBBC 2015) held from September 17th to 19th, 2015, at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya, was a resounding success. Organized by the dedicated committee led by Dr. Benson Nyambega and Dr. Kennedy Okeyo, the conference attracted approximately 95 participants from around the world.
The conference aimed to foster in-depth discussions and networking among scientists in academia and industry, focusing on endeavors dedicated to improving global health and addressing environmental challenges, with a particular emphasis on the African context.
Building on the achievements of the 1st AIBBC in September 2014, the 2nd AIBBC covered a broad spectrum of topics within biotechnology and biomedical fields. These included current research trends in communicable and non-communicable diseases, advances in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, technologies for low-resource settings, nano/microfluidic technologies for health and the environment, agricultural and environmental biotechnology, and innovative tech-based approaches to fighting infectious diseases in Africa.
The conference featured sessions at APHRC on September 17th and 18th, where attendees had the opportunity to engage in discussions and presentations. Additionally, a biodiversity study trip to Nairobi National Park on September 19th provided a unique opportunity for participants to connect with nature and appreciate the importance of environmental conservation.
Abstract submissions were invited, and the conference organizers set a firm deadline of August 11th, 2015, for submission. Only high-quality papers were considered for oral presentations, while others were presented as posters.
The conference also featured distinguished keynote speakers, including Prof. Paul Robinson (Purdue University, USA), Prof. Hidetoshi Kotera and Prof. Takehiko Kitamori (Kyoto University, Japan), Prof. Dr. Hans Tanke (Leiden University, Netherlands), Prof. Elizabeth Bukusi and Prof. Gunturu Revathi (Agha Khan University Hospital, Kenya), Prof. Aman Russom (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), and Prof. Masood Kamali-Moghaddam (Uppsala Universitet, Sweden).
The registration process offered different tiers, with an early bird registration deadline of July 31st and subsequent deadlines for normal and late/on-site registrations. The organizers also incentivized excellent presentations with a cashback offer.
As the conference concluded, participants left with enriched knowledge, new connections, and a deeper understanding of the advancements in biotechnology and biomedical fields. AIBBC 2015 undoubtedly contributed significantly to the ongoing dialogue in these critical areas of scientific research.
