The 5th Africa International Biomedical and Biotechnology Conference
(AIBBC 2021)
In a captivating event that unfolded from November 11th to November 12th, 2021, the 5th Africa International Biotechnology and Biomedical Conference (AIBBC 2021) took center stage in the picturesque lakeside city of Kisumu in western Kenya. Reflecting on this remarkable conference, it’s evident that AIBBC 2021 lived up to its legacy of promoting science and technology in Africa through impactful workshops and conferences.
Since its inception in 2014, AIBBC has been a driving force in advancing science and technology on the continent. The 5th edition continued this tradition by providing a platform for high-level scientific and technological interaction. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of fighting infectious diseases for global prosperity, peace, and stability was reaffirmed.
The conference offered a multidisciplinary platform for sharing the latest research findings in biomedical, biotechnology, and life sciences. Attendees had the opportunity to present their research either as oral or poster presentations. The thematic areas covered a wide spectrum, including assessing the impact of Covid-19 on health in Africa, molecular and cellular bases of diseases, cytometry, genomics, proteomics, advances in detection and therapeutic technologies, drug resistance, antimicrobial stewardship, point-of-care technologies for low resource settings, bioinformatics, and networking with industry.
The distinguished lineup of confirmed speakers, including Prof. Drew Weissman, Prof. Shingo Inoue, Prof. Phillip Low, Prof. Roderic I. Pettigrew, and others, contributed to the conference’s success. Their talks covered a range of topics from advanced molecular tools for detection to exploring the biodiversity of wetland ecology.
The conference schedule was packed with insightful sessions, including invited talks, plenary lectures, and a poster session. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with exhibitors during coffee breaks, lunch, and dedicated networking sessions. The conference concluded with an award ceremony and banquet, fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants.
The biodiversity tour added an extra dimension to the conference, allowing participants to experience Africa’s nature and hospitality. The visit to Kabalega Falls (Murchison Falls) in Uganda provided a captivating encounter with the natural beauty of the region.
As we reflect on the success of AIBBC 2021, we extend our appreciation to all participants, speakers, sponsors, and organizers who played a pivotal role in making this conference a memorable and enriching experience. The connections established and knowledge shared during this event will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing advancement of science and technology in Africa. We eagerly anticipate future editions of AIBBC, where the spirit of exploration and collaboration will continue to thrive.
